One of the things I learned is that in Texas, you can file, with your county clerk, a Transfer on Death Deed on your property. I received all the guidance and assistance needed for that to be done. A few weeks ago I received an email from the realtor who handled the sale of my in-laws property. My mother-in-law passed away in 2017 and my husband was the executor of her estate. The email advised that there had been a mistake on the property description during the sale in 2021 and they were requesting that my husband sign a document acknowledging the mistake and approving corrections. There were two problems with this request: my husband had passed away in 2022 and I didn’t know if I had the authority to sign any documents on his behalf, and I wasn’t sure what the ramifications were if the document was signed. She kept me advised of her progress regularly, and after the work she performed on my behalf the realtor and his team decided that they could handle the corrections without anything from me.
